Why Kai from The Vampire Diaries deserved another chance

One Of The Most Hated Antagonist

Malachai “Kai” Parker (Chris Wood) as we all The Vampire Diaries fans know, was the main antagonist throughout Season 6. A syphon witch who was constantly shamed by his own father — the leader of the Gemini coven — because of his unusual ‘ability’ to syphon magic instead of producing his own that appeared during his adolescence.

Now because of the constant humiliation of his own coven by believing he was an “abomination” of nature, he grew to recent them, and eventually turning into a sociopath (killing half of his siblings and the attempt murder of his own twin in the process) This ended in his twin Josette and the whole covens betrayal by imprisoning him in a 1994 prison world, where the same day would repeat itself over and over.

After Bonnie Bennet (Town witch and Elena Gilbert’s best friend) turned into the anker to the other side and Markos along the Travelers violently tore their way through her, the other side came into jeopardy. This resulted in Bonnie dying along with the destruction of the other side, which Damon Salvatore also got stuck there since he couldn't make it in time before Liv ‘s spell— Another twin of the Gemini coven — got interrupted by her twin brother Luke.

1994 Prison World

Both Bonnie and Damon got trapped into Kai’s prison world, where after four months lurking around, Kai decides to make his appearance in order to use the Bennet witch to break out of the prison world. At first, they made a deal so they could all get out, but we all know how that ended.

The Aftermath Of It All

So after all the Chaos he caused when he got out of that prison world, his brother Luke ended up doing the merge with Kai in order to save his sisters. Unfortunately, Kai was stronger and won. This resulted in him acquiring some qualities from Luke — one of them being empathy.

This is where my thought of him being able to redeem himself comes in. Now I know that he did all of these awful things, but who in the Town of Mystic Falls hasn't? Don’t get me started on the vampires who have turned their humanity off, putting their friends in jeopardy. So why do they get a pass but Malachai doesn’t? He was willing to apologize to Bonnie and prove that he is on the good side. If they had given him the chance and not imprison him in the1903 prison world, Kai wouldn’t got out wanting revenge, killing his twin sister on the day of her wedding along with the Gemini coven.

What Could’ve Been

It’s something that could’ve been avoided, but all of the Mystic Falls gang opinions are biased. Stefan became a ripper whenever he turned his humanity off — and lets not talk about Damon or Caroline. I understand that is part of the plot and they had to look for some excuse to take Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) out of the picture because she didn’t want to continue with the series, but come on. This could’ve had a better outcome, especially for what came next. Yeah, maybe Kai would’ve been to overpowered for the next antagonist, but I’m sure that they could’ve find a way around it.

He would’ve redeemed himself and who knows, Kai would’ve probably turned into a close friend of Bonnie (Ironically), his sister would be alive and having the chance to be a mother to her twins, etc. Maybe they would’ve changed the tradition of the Gemini coven even though they would still be alive. But that’s all part of another version of the whole plot.
